Ring Love letters under the willow tree

from £520.00

Fine silver, using Japanese braiding technique of Kumihimo. This ring was used 32 strings of wire, braided by hand. Made to order.

Love letters under the willow tree ring is inspired by the kabuki play called Love Letters from the Pleasure Quarters. Kabuki is a form of traditional Japanese theatre that originated in the early seventeenth century. The story goes that the young master of a wealthy household, Izaemon, was disowned by his family for becoming too infatuated with his courtesan lover, Yūgiri. After some time, he goes to visit her at her teahouse, and they meet under a willow tree at night, whispering to each other, hoping to be together again. Even though this scene is a small part of the story, I wanted to capture the beautiful scenery of two lovers under the willow tree.
